Multilingual journalist specializing in criminal justice and immigration coverage for a bilingual audience in the South Bronx.

Freelance Translator: Multiple outlets; New York, NY; Mar 2019-Present

Translates journalistic content from Spanish to English for El Faro, a Salvadoran investigative newsroom, and Documented NY, a NY-based outlet covering immigration. Previously translated a multi-part project from English to Spanish about ‘best practices’ for the communications departments of police agencies across Latin America, authored by the Center for Media, Crime and Justice.

Contributor & Journalism Intern: The Crime Report; New York, NY; Jan-Aug 2019

Authored and translated a report on U.S. asylum policy and metering, based on three weeks of in-person reporting in Tijuana, B.C., Mexico. Reported on immigration- and criminal justice-related topics, including immigration enforcement, immigration & mental health, community supervision policy, juvenile justice, and stop-and-frisk. Assisted in gathering research, drafting, and editing content for the Emerging Issues in American Policing Digest, a quarterly digest intended for police-practitioners and community members that presents innovations in the field of policing from the leading academic journals and research publications. Gathered and organized federal criminal justice data for a data visualization project and proofread SPSS code and outputs. Conducted field research on Spanish-language accessibility among Long Island police precincts.

Supervised by Vice President for Public Affairs Laura Ginns. Culled academic research on higher education, criminal justice, and immigration policy, student success, and other topics of interest to the Office of the President, to inform campus policy directives and initiatives.
